Fire Safety – Firewise Online Workshop

Fountaingrove II is the only certified Firewise community (go to firewise.org for more info) in Santa Rosa and one of only two in Sonoma County (the other is Sea Ranch).  Here’s, in a nutshell, what Firewise is all about:  “To save lives and property from wildfire, NFPA’s Firewise Communities program teaches people how to adapt to living with wildfire and encourages neighbors to work together and take action now to prevent losses. We all have a role to play in protecting ourselves and each other from the risk of wildfire.”  It’s an important program that is helping fire safe communities get some recognition for all their hard work (USAA is providing discounts to their Firewise Community homeowners – and we hope other insurance companies will follow suit). Firewise is sponsoring some online workshops. The next is about mulch combustibility and will take place on August 19th at 1:00 our time.  To register:  http://firewise.org/online-courses-and-education/virtualworkshops.aspx.  They have posted a recent workshop on how embers ignite roofs in a wildland fire and how to make make it more survivable:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6-RRYsUdFw&feature=youtu.be Also, the Press Democrat had a good article on fire preparedness in today’s paper:  http://www.pressdemocrat.com/news/state/2393494-181/park-agencies-landowners-gird-for
